Digital Record Player

DIGITAL RECORD PLAYER – AN EXPERIMENT WITH EBSYNTH

ABOUT THIS PROJECT:

This project is Tatum’s take on a style transfer video using footage she captured of the Okanagan. The work is highly abstract and uses several styles that Tatum created to give each video clip a unique look and feel. The video on the left is the result produced outside of the record player interface. Below you can see what the interface looks like and images of Tatum’s process/outcomes.

Tech/Tools Used: EbSynth, Processing 3/Java, Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere Pro

PROCESS:

This project involved several hours of filming, editing, and patiently waiting for frames to render. EbSynth is an example-based synthesis tool which allowed Tatum to “paint” her keyframes in a unique style. The music for this project was live-coded in SuperCollider by one of Tatum’s classmates, Erika Lachance. Once the video and music were ready, they were integrated into a record player-like interface for an interactive experience. See images to the right –>
